Quick answer
To convert AVIF to JPG, add your AVIF files and keep JPG selected. Each image is decoded by your browser and saved as a JPG at 90 percent quality, with any transparency filled with white. Download the JPGs individually or as a ZIP. Nothing leaves your device.
How to convert AVIF images to JPG
- Add your AVIF files.
Drag them onto the page or press Choose AVIF images.
- Check the settings.
JPG is selected at 90 percent. Choose PNG instead if the image has a transparent background.
- Download.
Save each JPG or press Download all (ZIP).
What an AVIF file is
AVIF (AV1 Image File Format) stores pictures using the AV1 video codec developed by the Alliance for Open Media, whose members include Google, Apple, Microsoft, Mozilla and Netflix. It often produces much smaller files than JPG at the same visual quality and supports transparency and HDR, so more websites and image CDNs now deliver it. When you save such an image from your browser, you get a .avif file.
Why AVIF won't open everywhere
All current major browsers display AVIF, but many desktop programs, older phones, office tools, print services and upload forms don't accept it yet. Converting to JPG is the simplest fix: JPG opens in practically everything. If your AVIF has transparency, such as a logo, pick PNG instead so the background stays transparent. The full image converter also turns JPGs and PNGs into AVIF when you need the small files for a website.
Quality and file size
Because AVIF is so efficient, the JPG is usually larger than the AVIF it came from. That's normal and doesn't mean anything was added. At the default 90 percent quality the picture looks the same; lower it to 75 or 80 percent if you need a smaller JPG for email or a form. Your browser decodes the AVIF, so the conversion is quick and fully private, and the JPG carries no metadata from the original. Related: WebP to JPG and HEIC to JPG.

For websites, AVIF is usually much smaller at similar quality. JPG is far more compatible with apps, printers and forms.
Will the JPG look the same?
Yes, at 90 percent quality the difference is not visible. The JPG file is usually larger than the AVIF.
Can I convert AVIF to PNG?
