Quick answer

To blur part of an image, open the photo in KitFuse, choose Pixelate, Blur or Black box, and drag over the area you want to hide. Each area is applied as you draw it. Download the result: the hidden areas are permanent and the photo's metadata is removed too.

How to blur faces or text in a photo

  1. Open a photo.

Choose a JPG, PNG, WebP or HEIC photo from your device.

  2. Pick an effect.

Select Pixelate, Blur or Black box and set the strength.

  3. Drag over what to hide.

Draw a box over each face, number plate or line of text. Use Undo if you miss.

  4. Download.

Save the edited photo. The hidden areas are baked into the image, and GPS and other metadata are removed.

Pixelate, blur or black box: which is safest?

All three hide details from a casual viewer, but they're not equally strong:

  • Black box removes the information completely. Use it for passwords, ID numbers, documents and anything with text.
  • Pixelate with a high strength is a good choice for faces and number plates. Researchers have shown that small, light pixelation of text can sometimes be reconstructed, so use large blocks.
  • Blur looks the most natural for backgrounds and faces in group photos, but avoid it for text.

What to hide before sharing a photo

Metadata isn't the only way a photo gives you away. Before posting, look for faces of people who didn't agree to be shared, children's faces and school uniforms, car number plates, house numbers and street signs, mail and parcel labels, screens and notifications, ID cards, tickets and boarding passes with barcodes. Afterwards, the photo is exported without its EXIF data, so the location is gone as well. You can double-check with the EXIF viewer.

Frequently asked questions

Can blurred or pixelated areas be undone?

Not from the file you download, because the change is saved into the image pixels. Your original photo on your device is unchanged. For text, use Black box, which leaves nothing to recover.

Does it work on phones?

Yes. Drag with your finger to draw each area. The editor works with touch, mouse and pen.

Will the photo lose quality?

The photo keeps its full resolution. It's saved again in its original format at high quality, so only the areas you hid change visibly.

Is the photo uploaded?

No. All editing happens in your browser. The photo never leaves your device.
