Quick answer
To convert a GIF to MP4, add the GIF to KitFuse, choose how many times to repeat the animation and press Convert to MP4. The video is encoded in your browser with H.264, so it plays on phones, computers and social apps. MP4 files are usually much smaller than the original GIF.

Press Convert to MP4, preview the video and download it.
Why convert GIF to MP4?
Modern video compression is far more efficient than GIF, so the same animation as an MP4 is often a tenth of the size or less, and it looks smoother because it isn't limited to 256 colors. MP4 also gets you past upload forms that don't accept GIFs, including Instagram posts and many messaging apps.
How the conversion works
KitFuse decodes each frame of the GIF, keeping its original timing, and encodes them as H.264 video using your browser's built-in video encoder (WebCodecs). Transparent areas are filled with the background color you pick. If your browser can't encode H.264, KitFuse tries another codec and, as a last resort, records a WebM video instead and tells you. To go the other way, use Video to GIF.
Frequently asked questions
Will the MP4 loop like a GIF?
Many apps loop short videos automatically, but not all. That's why you can repeat the animation several times inside the video.
Is the converted video private?
Yes. The GIF is decoded and the video is encoded on your device. Nothing is uploaded.
Which browsers are supported?
Current versions of Chrome, Edge, Safari and Firefox. Very old browsers may only be able to create WebM.
Is there a watermark?
No. The video has no watermark or branding.
