Quick answer

To convert a video to GIF, open the video in KitFuse, set the start time and length (up to 30 seconds), choose the width and frames per second, and press Create GIF. The GIF is made in your browser, with no watermark, and you can preview it before downloading.

How to make a GIF from a video

  1. Choose a video.

Pick an MP4, MOV or WebM file up to 500 MB from your device.

  2. Pick the moment.

Play the video and press Use current position, or type the start time. Set the length in seconds.

  3. Set size and smoothness.

480 pixels wide at 10 frames per second suits most chats and websites.

  4. Create and download.

Press Create GIF, preview the result and download it.

Getting a small, smooth GIF

GIF is an old format: every frame is stored as a separate image with up to 256 colors, so files grow quickly. The three settings that matter most are length, width and frames per second. A 5-second clip at 480 pixels and 10 frames per second usually lands between 1 and 5 MB. Doubling the frame rate roughly doubles the size. For reaction GIFs, 3 to 5 seconds is plenty.

Each frame gets its own optimized color palette, which keeps skin tones and gradients looking natural.

GIF or video?

GIFs play automatically and loop everywhere, which is why they're still popular in chats and on forums. If you control where the clip is shown, a short MP4 is much smaller and smoother. KitFuse can also turn GIFs back into video with GIF to MP4, and remove the sound from a clip with Remove audio from video.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a watermark?

No. GIFs made with KitFuse have no watermark and no branding.

How long can the GIF be?

Up to 30 seconds. Longer GIFs become very large, so for long clips a video format is a better choice.

Which videos can I use?

Any video your browser can play, usually MP4 (H.264), WebM and many MOV files. If a video won't open, try it in another browser.

Is my video uploaded?

No. Frames are captured and encoded on your device. Your video never leaves it.
