Short answer
To merge PDF files on any device, open KitFuse Merge PDF in your browser, add the files, arrange them with the arrows and press Merge PDFs. The pages are combined on your device and nothing is uploaded. On a Mac, Preview can also merge by dragging one PDF into another's sidebar; on iPhone, select the files in the Files app and choose Create PDF.
Merge PDFs in your browser (works everywhere)
- Open Merge PDF.
Go to kitfuse.pro/merge-pdf on your computer or phone.
- Add the PDFs.
Drag two or more files onto the page, or tap Choose PDFs. Each file shows its page count.
- Put them in order.
Use the up and down arrows next to each file. The first file in the list becomes the first pages of the result.
- Merge and download.
Press Merge PDFs. The combined file downloads as
merged.pdf, with no author or app metadata from the originals.
Need to change the order of individual pages, not just whole files? Use Organize PDF, which shows every page as a thumbnail you can drag, rotate or remove, and can combine several files at the same time.
How to merge PDFs on a Mac with Preview
- Open the first PDF in Preview.
- Choose View › Thumbnails to show the page sidebar.
- Drag the second PDF from Finder into the sidebar, dropping it where its pages should go. Repeat for more files.
- Choose File › Export as PDF to save the combined document under a new name, so the original first file stays unchanged.
Preview is free and handy for a handful of files. It gets fiddly with dozens of documents, and it can't reorder whole files at a glance the way a file list can.
How to merge PDFs on Windows
Windows has no built-in way to combine PDFs. Edge and Chrome can view and print PDFs but not merge them, and "Microsoft Print to PDF" only prints one document at a time. Your options are a desktop editor such as Adobe Acrobat (merging is a paid feature), a free desktop app, or a browser tool. A browser tool that processes files locally is the quickest way to merge without installing anything or uploading documents.
How to merge PDFs on iPhone and iPad
- Open the Files app and go to the folder with your PDFs (move them into one folder first if needed).
- Tap ⋯ (More) at the top, then Select, and tap the PDFs in the order you want them combined.
- Tap ⋯ in the bottom corner and choose Create PDF. A new merged file appears in the same folder.
The order follows your selection and the folder's sorting, which can be confusing. If the pages come out in the wrong order, open the result in Organize PDF and drag them into place.
How to merge PDFs on Android
Android doesn't include a PDF merger. Open the browser method above in Chrome, choose the PDFs from your downloads or Google Drive, and save the merged file to your phone. It works offline once the page has loaded.
Tips for a clean merged PDF
- Name files with numbers first (01-cv.pdf, 02-cover-letter.pdf, 03-certificates.pdf). Most file pickers then list them in order.
- Fix pages before merging. Turn sideways scans with Rotate PDF and drop blank pages with Delete PDF pages.
- Mixed page sizes are fine. A4 and Letter pages, or portrait and landscape, are kept as they are. Viewers simply show each page at its own size.
- Check the size limit. Merging scans adds up quickly. If a portal rejects the file, run it through Compress PDF.
- Photos instead of PDFs? Turn them into pages with JPG to PDF first, then merge.
What gets kept when you merge
Every page is copied exactly, so text stays selectable and pictures keep their quality. Links inside pages keep working. Document-level extras are a different story: bookmarks (the outline in a PDF viewer's sidebar) and each file's title, author and creation app are not carried over by most merging tools, including KitFuse. Fillable forms can also lose their interactive fields; if you need to keep forms working, fill them in first.
Frequently asked questions
How do I combine PDF files for free?
Use a free browser tool such as KitFuse Merge PDF, Preview on a Mac, or the Files app's Create PDF on iPhone. None of them adds a watermark.
Can I merge PDFs without Adobe Acrobat?
Yes. Merging is a paid feature in Acrobat, but browser tools and Mac Preview do it free. You don't need any Adobe product.
Is it safe to merge confidential PDFs online?
Only if the tool doesn't upload them. KitFuse merges in your browser, so the documents stay on your device; most other online mergers upload files to a server.
How many PDFs can I merge at once?
KitFuse handles up to 200 files of up to 200 MB each. Very large merges work best on a computer because they need more memory.
Can I merge a password-protected PDF?
Not while it's locked. Remove the password in your PDF app (open it, then save or print a copy without security), then merge.
Merge your PDFs now
