Quick answer
To convert PNG to WebP, add your images and check that WebP is selected. The quality is set to 82 percent, which keeps images crisp while making them much smaller. Each file is converted as soon as you add it, with transparency kept. Download them one by one or all at once as a ZIP.

Why convert images to WebP
WebP is an image format Google developed for the web. In Google's own tests, lossy WebP images were 25 to 34 percent smaller than JPGs of comparable quality, and lossless WebP was about 26 percent smaller than PNG. On a website, smaller images mean faster pages, which helps visitors on mobile data and can improve your Core Web Vitals scores. Every current browser displays WebP, including Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari.
PNG to WebP: transparency and quality
PNG is lossless, which makes it ideal for logos, icons and screenshots but very heavy for photos. This converter creates lossy WebP files with an alpha channel, so transparent backgrounds stay transparent. At the default quality of 82 percent, photos that were saved as PNG often become 70 to 90 percent smaller. Flat graphics and screenshots shrink less, and you may want to raise the quality to 90 percent or more to keep the edges of text crisp.
JPG to WebP and other formats
Despite the name, this page converts almost any image to WebP: JPG, GIF, BMP, AVIF and even HEIC photos from an iPhone. JPG photos typically shrink by a quarter to a third with no visible difference. Animated GIFs are converted from their first frame. For the smallest possible files, try the image compressor, which can also limit images to a maximum width. To go back to JPG, use WebP to JPG.
Works in every browser, Safari included
Chrome, Edge and Firefox can create WebP files on their own, so conversion is instant. Where a browser can't, as has long been the case with Safari, KitFuse downloads a small WebAssembly build of Google's libwebp encoder once and runs it on your device. Either way your images are never uploaded, and the WebP files contain no EXIF metadata from the originals.

Frequently asked questions
Will converting PNG to WebP lose quality?
WebP at 82 percent quality is lossy, but for photos the difference is very hard to see. For graphics with text or sharp lines, set the quality to between 90 and 100 percent.
Does WebP keep transparent backgrounds?
Yes. Transparent and semi-transparent areas in your PNG files are kept in the WebP files.
Can I convert JPG to WebP here?
Yes. JPG, GIF, BMP, AVIF and HEIC images all convert to WebP on this page.
Is WebP supported everywhere?
All modern browsers display WebP, as do WordPress, Shopify and most website platforms. Some older desktop programs and upload forms still don't accept it; for those, convert back with WebP to JPG.
How many images can I convert at once?
Up to 100 images in one batch, each up to 100 MB.
Are my images uploaded?
No. The conversion happens in your browser and the files stay on your device.
